Vampire Nightlife

Chapter 4 Hunter Association

Lukas knew that the gameplay offered in VR games were more comprehensive than past ones, but he didn\'t think that they\'d also go through a lengthy process of evaluating him to see if he was fit with the job.

This was way too realistic!

He just wanted to apply and get to work already–play some FPS or RPG mode where he\'d fight enemies out of Lux City to earn his Nyx Credits.

Nothing more, nothing less, so why was he now in this white empty room.

They even made him change into one of those dark tunics to conduct the test.

Miss Receptionist finally stepped inside of the room alongside him, a tablet in her hand and a smile on her face.

"Lukas, we\'ll be starting with Physical Test Simulation. Do you give your verbal waiver of consent for any physical or psyche damage inflicted upon your person?"

"What?" Lukas asked.

"Yes or no?"

Lukas knew he was about to make money, and this was all just a game so–

"Yes, let\'s get on with it."

The environment around them changed to that of a woodland forest, and in the center of it all was a tall and peculiar totem designed with five faces of different creatures depicted and placed on each one of them.

Each one of the heads had various colors too.

One of the heads resembled that of a monkey and it had the soft yellow golden color, another was more of a tree-person and was oaken in hue, one was stone-like and finally and resembled a golem, and finally the top of the head was a pure black that resembled a snake.

"We will begin with the Strength Assessment Test," Emerys said. "It\'s simple."

"I just need to hit the totem heads?"

"Yes, precisely." Emerys nodded and pushed up her glasses. "You may have already identified that their properties are of different materials, each one harder than the last."

"Aren\'t Vampires already naturally strong?" Lukas muttered underneath his breath.

"Good question." Emerys smiled. "Compared to other species, we are mostly proven to be above average in strength, but even among our kind, the personal strength varies from one individual to the next, hence the need to measure."

"Okay, got it." Lukas clenched his fist.

"Uh, you do it like this." Emerys touched his hand and adjusted it slightly. "Despite our high regenerative abilities, it\'ll still hurt to break your thumb or nails. I reckon your Shapeshifting ability isn\'t high up, so best be careful."

"Right, I knew that. Thanks." Lukas chuckled. "Just knew that someone like you wouldn\'t be able to resist it if I got it wrong and you\'d be bound to correct me."

"Oh I would, but that\'s a deduction to your points in the test, Lukas." Emerys sweetly said and then motioned to the totem. "So go ahead and destroy the first one–this one here at the top."

"You got it."

Lukas took a deep breath and swung his fist–and watched the yellow totem fly off and disappear into the trees.

"Perfect," Emerys said.

"Was that good?" Lukas raised a brow.

"I said perfect didn\'t I?"

"Yeah, I\'m not sure if you were being sarcastic. It\'s kinda hard to tell."

"Oh, you would know if I was teasing you," Emerys said as the broken pieces of the yellow totem returned and piled beneath her feet. "But what you did was exemplary for a beginner. Can you try the next one? It\'s a little harder."

The totem suddenly rose higher and the face of the tree-like person met Lukas face to face.

"This looks like wood."

"It is, but it\'s not ordinary wood."

"That\'s a bit obvious if it was ranked higher than the one earlier, right?"

Emerys rolled her eyes and jotted down on her tablet. "Sarcasm, how lovely. Not much of a team player are you?"

"Wait, you\'re assessing my interactions with you too?" Lukas glanced at her.

"Naturally." Emerys chuckled. "If you\'re trying to apply for a position, you need to be on your best behavior–but you\'re quite comfortable saying whatever it is that\'s on your mind, huh?"

"Don\'t you think that\'s a good thing?" Lukas threw a punch at the next totem head–but unlike the first one, it didn\'t fly away, instead it only ended up split right in the middle. "Huh."

"Acceptable." Emerys said. "Move on to the next one–you can\'t spend time blabbering when you\'re a Hunter you know?"

"And why is that?" Lukas punched the stone golem totem–and watched it crumble not into dust, but hefty chunks. It was less affected by his strength and he could feel a slight sting in his fist.

"You really sound like those posh boys that lived in the Lux City all your life, don\'t you?"

"You can\'t exactly say that."

"Oh, I can. I think you\'ve reached your limit after all." Emerys said.

"What? I haven\'t tried the white and black–"

"Ivory Tusks of the Killerhead Rhinoceros and the Scales of a Dark Ancient Serpent."
